Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)
ESOS is for large companies that need to comply with energy efficiency legislation.
Who Needs ESOS?
ESOS is mandatory for businesses that meet at least 1 of these requirements:
• Employ 250 staff or more;
• Annual gross income is or over £44 million;
• Annual balance sheet is or over £38 million.
• Or be a part of a larger organisation that falls into any of these categories.
What Is ESOS?
The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory assessment scheme ensuring that large businesses are energy efficient. It requires companies to carry out on-site Energy Audits to evaluate energy consumption and identify energy-saving opportunities in their buildings, industrial processes and transport.
Reporting is every 4 years of a 3 year compliance period.

Businesses that now meet the requirements for ESOS need to notify the Environment Agency's (EA) online system and comply with the ESOS qualification by the Phase 3 deadline.
Penalties
If your business does not comply with ESOS, you may face a huge penalty from £50,000 and multiple daily fines, starting from £500.
